La GML se encuentra de forma natural en la leche, la palma enana americana y el aceite de coco. Generalmente es de aspecto oleoso, escamoso o granular, de color blanco o amarillo claro. La GML posee m\u00faltiples funciones, como propiedades antibacterianas, antif\u00fangicas, y mejora la resistencia a enfermedades, la tasa de supervivencia, la tasa de utilizaci\u00f3n de aceite y el rendimiento del crecimiento en animales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Seguridad del Producto<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En 1977, la GML fue aprobada como aditivo GRAS por la Administraci\u00f3n de Alimentos y Medicamentos de EE. class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El GML puede atravesar f\u00e1cilmente la mayor\u00eda de las paredes celulares de las bacterias G+ (compuestas principalmente por peptidoglicano) y algunas paredes celulares de las bacterias G- (compuestas principalmente por LOS), por lo que tiene un buen efecto antibacteriano sobre estas bacterias. Sin embargo, para las bacterias con pared celular de lipopolisac\u00e1rido, como *E. coli* y *Salmonella*, la monolaurina presenta un efecto antibacteriano deficiente.<\/p>\n\n\n<div
